The Final Days of Windows 7 – Are You Prepared?

All technology is iterative. Whether we are talking about software or hardware, there will come a time when your current tools will no longer fit your needs. Deciding when to upgrade is always a bit of a guessing game. You could choose to be an early adapter, but that means you may be dealing with 1.0 bugs and other growing pains. Waiting too long to switch, however, can create much more serious problems.

Why You Should Be Preparing to Switch

An expiration date for making a change is exactly what Windows 7 users are facing right now. On January 14th, 2020, Windows will end support for Windows 7. Updates will stop, and the operating system will enter lame-duck status. Technically, you’ll still be able to use Windows 7 after that date, but if you’re one of the 40-plus percent of businesses who still use the platform, you need to think about switching as soon as possible. Here are a few key reasons why:

Ease of Integration

Your operating system may be the foundational platform from which every other desktop tool springs, but it’s far from the only software resource you rely on. In today’s world, every business needs a whole suite of services in order to run at their best. Sticking to an out-of-date operating system will cause your other programs to falter. Developers simply aren’t updating their software with an eye toward Windows 7. Over time, many of the applications essential to your operations will become unusable in Windows 7.

The same is true of hardware. New devices and components are released all the time, and they are all designed to work with the operating systems of today and tomorrow. Unfortunately, Windows 7 is quickly becoming yesterday’s operating system. Using Windows 7 with such hardware limits its capabilities. Hotfix 2 is Now Available for Lytec 2017

Lytec 2017 has been updated to validate chart numbers for patients during billing against the patient table instead of a list of allowed characters.

CMS Extends (PQRS) Deadline for EHR Submission

CMS Extends Deadline for 2016 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Submission

***(This is an email we received from CMS March 13th 2017)***

CMS extends the submission deadline for 2016 Quality Reporting Document Architecture (QRDA) data submission for the EHR reporting mechanism of the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) program. Individual eligible professionals (EPs), PQRS group practices, qualified clinical data registries (QCDRs), and qualified EHR data submission vendors (DSVs) now have until Friday, March 31, 2017 to submit 2016 EHR data via QRDA. The deadline is extended to March 31, 2017 for EPs to electronically report electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQMs) for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

Please Note: The deadline for eCQM data submission for hospitals participating in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program and to meet the electronic reporting of Clinical Quality Measures (CQMs) portion of the EHR Incentive Program is Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). The deadline for reporting via attestation and Meaningful Use objective and measure submission for providers participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program is Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

A complete list of 2016 data submission timeframes is below:

March 13, 2017 deadline:

  • eCQM reporting for hospitals – 1/3/17 – 3/13/17
  • CQM reporting via attestation – 1/3/17 – 3/13/17
  • Meaningful Use objectives and measures – 1/3/17 – 3/13/17

March 17, 2017 deadline:

  • Web Interface – 1/16/17 – 3/17/17

March 31, 2017 deadlines:

  • EHR Direct or Data Submission Vendor (QRDA I or III) – 1/3/17 – 3/31/17
  • Qualified Clinical Data Registries (QRDA III) – 1/3/17 – 3/31/17
  • Qualified Registries (Registry XML) – 1/3/17 – 3/31/17
  • QCDRs (QCDR XML) – 1/3/17 – 3/31/17
  • eCQM reporting for EPs – 1/3/17 – 3/31/17

Submission ends at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on the end date listed for PQRS reporting. An Enterprise Identity Management (EIDM) account with the “Submitter Role” is required for these PQRS data submission methods. Please see the EIDM System Toolkit for additional information.

EPs who do not satisfactorily report 2016 quality measure data to meet the PQRS requirements will be subject to a downward PQRS payment adjustment on all Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) services rendered in 2018. When attempting to connect to Revenue Management, you may encounter an error like the one shown below.

Typically this occurs when the system has lost its connection to the database due to either a reboot of the server or an outage at the office.

Important Update for Relay Health Customers

Relay Health Update

You may have received an announcement that looks something like this

RelayHealth has made some changes in their system that is affecting the ability to send claims and receive reports in Medisoft and Lytec. Our records indicate that you will need to perform an update to correct this issue in your system.

We have created a short video that will walk you through this process. In most cases this is a fairly easy fix. This typically takes about 5 minutes to complete.

Relay Health EMF


What does this mean?

Relay Health has updated some of their security settings. When this happens, it requires all users that send claims to Relay Health to update their settings in order to continue sending claims without interruption.


What do I need to do?

In order to avoid issues when sending claims / pulling down reports, this update will need to be performed on all workstations that access Revenue Management.

Due to the impact of this update, we will be offering assistance with the steps if you encounter any issues.

We have also included a tutorial video here on the blog as well as YouTube for the users that want to complete this update themselves.
