Wireless Networks / Terminal Services
We highly recommend that all devices on a wireless network connect to a terminal server to run the EMR application. Where there are more than two devices on the wireless network, this will require a Terminal Server and a Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) license for the Terminal Server.
Please be aware that the following issues may arise when using the EMR System over a wireless network. Mainly:

  • Loss of wireless connectivity may result in loss of current work on the laptop where this occurred.
  • Hibernating or standby may result in connectivity errors if the EMR System is open when the Laptop enters either state.
  • Performance may be affected based on signal strength, quality and other factors.
If you choose to run on a wireless network without using terminal services, you do this at your own risk.

*Note: If you EMR Server meets the requirements noted above it can be used as a Terminal Server for up to 10 users, anything greater than 10 users will require an additional server.

Printer / Scanner Requirements
Scanner: Higher Quality Scanners will produce better results – their increased speed and uptime will occupy less of your employee’s time, in addition, when purchasing lower end scanners you run a risk of additional support issues that may result in additional cost. There are only two types of Scanners that are supported: twain compatible scanners and network (TCP/IP) scanners (must be able to scan to a network directory). For recommended scanners please contact your sales representative. For customers using thin client technology or scanning from a remote location, use of the Remote Scan software is recommended. More information can be found at http://www.remote-scan.com.

Printers: It is highly recommended to purchase network (TCP/IP) printers. These types of printers do not rely on a computer to be turned on in order for other users to print to them. They will alleviate frustrations resulting from the occasional inability to print when desired. Overall they are simply a more stable way to approach group printing. Although it is not the best method, shared printers are supported and can be used. If you are going to be using Terminal Services all printers you would like to print to while connected to your Terminal Services session must be compatible with the Windows Server 2003 or 2008 operating system and must be installed as a local printer (they cannot be terminal services mapped printers). For a list of recommended printers please contact your sales representative.

Additional Requirements
Backup: A good backup and disaster recovery plan is extremely important and should not be considered optional. AZCOMP Technologies, Inc. does not install, support, or maintain a backup of your EHR data or server as part of the software installation. The customer is completely responsible to ensure a backup solution and disaster recovery plan is in place. AZCOMP Technologies Inc. can not be held responsible for loss of data due to insufficient, incomplete, or corrupt backups.

AZCOMP does provide backup solutions as a value added additional service; however, it is not included in this EMR software installation project. You must purchase the backup server and installation separate and in addition to your EMR software. We highly recommend a backup and disaster recovery solution that will allow you to continue the use of your EMR in a relatively short period of time in the event of a disaster to your EMR server. This will minimize downtime and allow you to continue to function as a business. We recommend a BDR (Backup and Disaster Recovery) server that makes complete hourly backups of your EMR server and will act as a backup server should the main EMR server go down for any reason. In addition to a backup server we recommend automated remote off-site backup as a way to protect your data in the event of fire, theft, or natural disaster. Please contact your account manager if you would like additional information on any of these services.

Optional Servers
Fax Server: For smaller customers, the fax board or modem may be installed on one of the existing servers in the environment, typically the application server. For larger customers doing significant volume of faxing, a separate fax server may be required. This server cannot be virtualized. Faxing using Microsoft Fax is supported. Minimum requirements are Dual Core 1.6Ghz or higher, 2GB (4GB for Windows 2008 R2) RAM or higher, DVD-ROM, Gigabit NIC, and 10GB Free Space on Hard Drive. Windows Server 2003 R2 and 2008 R2 Standard Editions are supported.

Web View Server: If you are using the Web View product, you must also have a separate server to run the web services. This must be its own server and cannot have patient data on it as the server must be configured to reside in the network’s DMZ or have an encrypted tunnel to the internet to facilitate web traffic. Mimimum requirements are Dual Core 1.6Ghz or higher, 2GB (4GB for Windows 2008 R2) RAM or higher, DVD-ROM, Gigabit NIC, and 10GB Free Space on Hard Drive. Windows Server 2003 R2 and 2008 R2 Standard Editions are supported.
