Write Off Old Charges in Medisoft: Using the Enhanced Write-Off Utility

A faster, more flexible way to manage aged balances

Medisoft’s enhanced Write-Off Utility helps simplify the process of adjusting old or small balances, eliminating the need to manually update individual accounts. This update includes additional filtering options and improvements that make bulk write-offs easier and more targeted.

To begin, users select a cutoff date, which filters charge lines that occurred before that point. Optional filters allow further customization, including narrowing by billing code, charge balance limits, or the responsible party (primary, secondary, tertiary, or patient). A new enhancement also allows filtering by specific insurance carriers.

Once filters are applied, charge lines are loaded into a list. Users can then review and selectively check the lines they want to write off. Medisoft allows configuration of write-off and credit reversal codes, both of which can be customized and applied in bulk. These codes ensure the correct adjustments are posted in patient accounts.

Before writing off charges, a report can be generated to review which items will be affected. Once confirmed, the utility will post the selected adjustments, and those balances will be updated accordingly in the patient’s account.

As best practice, always create a backup of your data before performing any bulk write-offs.
