Deadline for Reporting MIPS Postponed

Deadline for Reporting MIPS Postponed

To provide relief to clinicians who are on the front lines of the fight against the 2019 Novel Caronavirus (COVID-19), CMS announced that they will be extending the reporting deadline for MIPS from March 31, 2020 to April 30, 2020. In addition, CMS is evaluating options for providing relief for MIPS participation in 2020.

CMS has also updated the policy for extreme and uncontrollable circumstances ensuring that providers who are unable to report for 2019 at all will not be penalized. In an email sent out by CMS it states the following:

“MIPS eligible clinicians who have not submitted any MIPS data by April 30, 2020 do not need to take any additional action to qualify for the automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy. These clinicians will be automatically identified and receive a neutral payment adjustment for the 2021 MIPS payment year. All four MIPS performance categories for these clinicians will be weighted at zero percent, resulting in a score equal to the performance threshold, and a neutral MIPS payment adjustment for the 2021 MIPS payment year. However, if a MIPS eligible clinician submits data on two or more MIPS performance categories, they will be scored and receive a 2021 MIPS payment adjustment based on their 2019 MIPS final score.

CMS will continue monitoring the developing COVID-19 situation and assess options to bring additional relief to clinicians and their staff so they can focus on caring for patients.”

How to Check Your SQL Version in Lytec

On July 9, 2019, Microsoft ended all support for SQL Server 2008 R2 including security patches, updates, and technical assistance. This means if a security vulnerability is discovered, Microsoft WILL NOT release a patch to fix it.

Continuing to use systems that are no longer supported with security patches will put your organization at risk for data breaches. More importantly it violates HIPAA compliance requirements to protect devices against malicious software – opening your practice up to potential major fines.

IS YOUR SYSTEM AT RISK?

If you are using Lytec 2014 or older your system is at risk and needs to be upgraded immediately.

If you are using Lytec 2015 or newer your system may also be at risk. 2015 and newer versions shipped with MS SQL 2012. However, if your software was only upgraded there is a chance you are still using SQL Server 2008 R2 as your operating system.

Check out the new video we put together on how to check your SQL version in Lytec, to see if you might be at risk.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Contact us today for a risk assessment. We can quickly check to see if your system is at risk. If you are, we will help you upgrade to a newer version of the software and to a compliant
operating system.

The Final Days of Windows 7 – Are You Prepared?

All technology is iterative. Whether we are talking about software or hardware, there will come a time when your current tools will no longer fit your needs. Deciding when to upgrade is always a bit of a guessing game. You could choose to be an early adapter, but that means you may be dealing with 1.0 bugs and other growing pains. Waiting too long to switch, however, can create much more serious problems.

Why You Should Be Preparing to Switch

An expiration date for making a change is exactly what Windows 7 users are facing right now. On January 14th, 2020, Windows will end support for Windows 7. Updates will stop, and the operating system will enter lame-duck status. Technically, you’ll still be able to use Windows 7 after that date, but if you’re one of the 40-plus percent of businesses who still use the platform, you need to think about switching as soon as possible. Here are a few key reasons why:

Ease of Integration

Your operating system may be the foundational platform from which every other desktop tool springs, but it’s far from the only software resource you rely on. In today’s world, every business needs a whole suite of services in order to run at their best. Sticking to an out-of-date operating system will cause your other programs to falter. Developers simply aren’t updating their software with an eye toward Windows 7. Over time, many of the applications essential to your operations will become unusable in Windows 7.

The same is true of hardware. New devices and components are released all the time, and they are all designed to work with the operating systems of today and tomorrow. Unfortunately, Windows 7 is quickly becoming yesterday’s operating system. Using Windows 7 with such hardware limits its capabilities. Eventually, it will become difficult to find hardware that’s compatible with Windows 7 at all.

Security Concerns

While hindering your performance is far from desirable, that pales in comparison to the safety risks you’ll be living with if you don’t upgrade in time. Once Microsoft ends support, security patches will cease. These patches are essential for combating the latest tactics used by hackers to break into your network. Without them, you are extremely vulnerable.

Even worse, hackers know to target businesses and individuals who fail to upgrade to current operating systems. They correctly reason that if somebody is foolish enough to use an outdated platform, they probably aren’t wise enough to have adequate defenses. Basically, an unsupported operating system is the equivalent of a “kick me” sign on your back, only this one reads: “hack me.”

Act Now or Cry Later

We are just about 6 months away from the death knell of Windows 7, so you may think you have time before a change is necessary. The truth is: You should act now so that once the final date arrives, you’ll have all of the machines ready to go. That’s especially true if you’re considering changing your service provider altogether, rather than simply migrating forward to Windows 10. If you need to transition your operating system, we are here to help guide you along the way. No matter what course of action you take, you have to act. Otherwise, you’ll be in deep trouble come January 2020.

The Quick Way to Change Claims in Claims Management

Have you ever wanted to know how to make changes to claims in ‘Claims Management’ in bulk?

As you know, claims management is the place where you go to manage all of your claims. It is a common question for customers to ask us how to change the status of claims in bulk or in batches. Instead of going through and clicking each individual claim, you can change all of your claims in a matter of a couple clicks.

For example, let’s say a batch of claims were rejected and you need to resubmit the entire batch. Of course, before you can resend the claims, you will first need to change the status of each claims from ‘Sent’ back to a status of ‘Ready to Send’. This might be one example out of many where you would use this quick shortcut! You don’t need to spend time or effort editing each claim individually.

Check out this short tutorial video we’ve put together for you on how to save yourself time and get more done. Wait until you see how easy this is!
