Medisoft: How to Send a Corrected Claim

Occasionally, a payer might reject a claim and request a corrected version. In this case, you must send the original claim number along with a specific frequency, depending on the payer’s requirements.

Navigating claim rejections can be a hassle, but with Medisoft, sending a corrected claim is streamlined and straightforward.

In this video, we’ll guide you through the steps to send a corrected claim with a frequency type and reference number, ensuring you can address any payer rejections efficiently.

A Step-By-Step Guide to Sending a Corrected Claim:  

Identify the Need for a Corrected Claim: When you receive a notification from the payer indicating the need for a corrected claim, you’ll typically find the necessary frequency type (7 or 8) and the original claim number in the payer’s communication, such as an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).

Access Frequency Type Information in Medisoft
: Open Medisoft Help and search for “frequency.” This will guide you to the “Edit Claim – Carrier 1 , 2 and 3 Tabs,” where you can view all the available frequency types. Select the appropriate type based on the payer’s instructions.

Enter the Original Reference Number
:
  • Pull up the patient in the transaction entry screen, right-click on the patient’s case, and select “Edit Case.”
  • Navigate to the “Medicare and Tricare” tab. Here, you can enter the original reference number, which should be listed on the EOB or ERA provided by the payer.

Update the Claim in Claim Management:
  • Go to claim management and find the patient’s claim—Double-click on it to open.
  • Enter the specified frequency type (7, 8, etc.) in the designated field.

Handling Paper ClaimsFor paper claims, the process is similar but with a slight adjustment. Instead of entering the frequency type in claim management, you will add it in the patient’s case under the same “Medicare and Tricare” tab.
