How to Set Up eMedix Eligibility in Medisoft (Step-by-Step Guide)

Checking patient eligibility doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. With Medisoft and the eMedix clearinghouse, you can verify deductibles, copays, and coverage details in just a few clicks. This guide walks you through how to set up your eligibility receiver, add it to all your insurance carriers, and confirm everything is working correctly.

If you don’t have eMEDIX yet, you can learn more about how Medisoft EDI can streamline your billing process here.

Step 1: Open the Connection Setup in Medisoft

Start by launching Revenue Management in Medisoft.
From the top menu, click Process, then choose Change Practice.

If you manage multiple practices, make sure the correct one is highlighted, then select Configure. This will open the Connection Wizard, where you’ll set up your eligibility connection.

Click Next, and when prompted, enter the username and password you normally use to log in to Medisoft.

Step 2: Choose the eMedix Eligibility Receiver

Next, you’ll see a list of available connections.
Find and select eMedix Eligibility (not eMedix Claims). Then click Next.

If you’re on an older version of Medisoft, you may first see a list of EDI receivers. Scroll to the bottom and look for one labeled EMEV, which is the correct connection for eMedix eligibility. Select it and click Next until you reach the setup screen.

Step 3: Enter Your Account Information

Here’s what you’ll need to enter on the setup screen:

  • Contact Name & Phone: Use your practice contact information.
  • ISA/GS Submitter ID: Enter your TP ID number (your eMedix account number). It’s usually three characters long and was provided to you by email.
  • 100A Submitter ID & TP ID Fields: Enter the same TP ID in each of these fields.
  • User ID: This is your EDI Web Service Login.
  • Password: Use your EDI Web Service Password.

After filling in your details, click Next through the remaining screens, accept the defaults, and then click Finish.

You should be taken back to the screen showing the list of practices; make sure yours is highlighted and click Select.

Step 4: Apply the Eligibility Receiver to All Insurance Carriers

Once you’re back in Revenue Management, you can link the eMedix eligibility receiver to all your insurance carriers at once.

  1. Go to Configure > Insurance > Eligibility Receivers.
  1. Highlight the first carrier on the list.
  1. Scroll to the bottom, hold Shift, and click the last one to highlight them all.
  1. In the receiver column, select EMV for any one carrier — Medisoft will automatically apply it to all.
  1. Click Save before closing the screen.

Step 5: Verify That the Receiver Was Created

You can double-check your setup by going to Configure > Receivers and confirming that EMEV appears in the list for eMedix Eligibility.

Step 6: Locate Eligibility Payer Numbers

Each insurance carrier requires an eligibility payer number, which may differ from its claims payer ID. To find the correct codes:

  1. Visit online.emedixus.com/payerlist.
  1. Change the Transaction Type to Eligibility.
  1. Search for your payer name (for example, “Medicare”).
  1. Copy the Eligibility Payer ID listed in the first column.

Then, in Medisoft:

  • Go to Lists > Insurance Carriers.
  • If you don’t already have a column for eligibility payer IDs, click the black dot next to the “Code” column, select Add Fields, and choose Primary Eligibility Payer ID.
  • Double Click into the carrier you want to add Eligibility Payer ID and choose the EDI Eligibility tab.
  • Paste the payer number you copied into the appropriate field for each insurance.
  • Click Save when you’re done.

Step 7: Test Your Connection

To make sure everything is working:

  1. Open a patient record that uses one of the updated insurance carriers.
  1. Double-click their case.
  1. Click the Eligibility button on the right.
  1. Select Verify, and then View Eligibility once the process completes.

If the connection is successful, you’ll see green confirmation messages like “Completed” or “Success.” If you encounter an error, double-check your login information or reach out to your eMedix or AZCOMP support team for help.
